Stoney Oaks Rodeo Summer Horse Camp
Saddle up for an unforgettable summer at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds! Our Summer Horse Camp is designed for young riders eager to hone their rodeo skills, horsemanship, and teamwork in a fun and supportive environment.
Throughout the week, campers will learn the fundamentals of barrel racing, pole bending, vaulting, riding with a flag, a half time animal parade and more, while also developing a deeper understanding of horse care, groundwork, and riding techniques. But it’s not just about the arena—our camp fosters friendship and camaraderie, ensuring every rider feels part of a true rodeo family.
The highlight of each camp session comes on Friday at noon, when parents are invited to a special Rodeo Showcase, where campers demonstrate their new skills in an exciting, action-packed event. From first-time riders to aspiring rodeo stars, this is a chance for kids to shine and celebrate their achievements in the very same arena that has hosted countless rodeo legends.
If your child dreams of horses, rodeos, and adventure, this is the ultimate summer experience! Spots are limited, so sign up today!

Meet Maggie & Pearl
Maggie and Pearl were rescued from a kill pen on September 4, 2024. They endured a 17-hour trailer ride without food or water
before being picked up in Kern County and brought 7 hours to our ranch. Arriving with ribs showing, scratches, illness, and fear,
they faced a scary recovery from shipping fever. With time, veterinary care, and patience, we earned their trust — cutting the
numbers from their tails and giving them names. Today, Maggie and Pearl are thriving examples of the transformation possible
through rescue and rehabilitation.
“These two horses are living proof of resilience and second chances.”

Angela May is the Founder and Director of Stoney Oaks Ranch in Alpine, California, a 10-acre equestrian facility she established in 2018 that houses and boards 30 horses. With over 20 years of professional experience in equine care, training, and instruction, Angela is dedicated to fostering safe, effective, and rewarding partnerships between horse and rider.
As a Western riding instructor, Angela specializes in beginner through intermediate horsemanship, emphasizing strong fundamentals, rider safety, and clear communication with horses. She has designed and led a variety of successful programs aside from her lesson program, including summer camps serving more than 300 youth participants every summer, homeschool programs integrating horsemanship with leadership and character development, and riding clubs offering age-appropriate, progressive instruction. In addition, she has organized and managed large-scale equestrian experiences, such as overnight camping trips and trail rides involving 25+ horses and riders through the local East San Diego County Mountains.
Angela’s expertise is strengthened by advanced training, including a Colt Starting Clinic at Art of the Cowgirl (2025), a Liberty Training Clinic (2025), and an Equine Assisted Learning Certification (2023), which qualifies her to design and facilitate equine-assisted programs that build leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
At the heart of her work, Angela’s purpose and passion lie in developing leadership, strength, and community in young people. She believes that today’s youth, more than ever, need connection—connection with each other, with animals, and with the outdoors. Through her programs, she provides opportunities for meaningful growth, equipping young riders not only with horsemanship skills but with the resilience, teamwork, and confidence to thrive beyond the arena. She is committed to lifelong learning for herself and her students, coordinating educational opportunities with subject matter experts and veterinarians several times a year.
Areas of Expertise:
Angela brings energy, professionalism, a love of horses, and a love of working with children to every clinic and program she leads—inspiring riders of all ages to develop confidence, horsemanship skills, and a lifelong connection with horses.
